Neostigmine Indications

– myasthenia gravis, acute myasthenic crisis; motor impairment after injuries of the brain

– paralysis

– recovery period after suffering meningitis, polio, encephalitis

– neuritis, optic atrophy

– intestinal atony, atony bladder

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or other components of the drug; epilepsy; hyperkinesis; vagotomy; coronary heart disease; angina; arrhythmia; bradycardia; asthma; pronounced atherosclerosis; hyperthyroidism; gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer; peritonitis; mechanical obstruction of the digestive tract and urinary tract infections; prostatic hypertrophy, accompanied by dysuria; the acute phase of infectious disease; intoxication in dramatically impaired children, the simultaneous use of depolarizing muscle relaxants.
 
Dosage & Administration

The drug is administered subcutaneously at a dose of 0.5-2 mg (1.4 ml) 1-2 times a day. The maximum single dose for adults – 2 mg daily – 6 mg.

The duration of treatment (except myasthenia gravis, myasthenic crisis atony postoperative bowel and bladder, an overdose of muscle relaxants) – 25-30 days. If necessary, prescribe a second course – 3-4 weeks. Most of the total daily dose is prescribed in the daytime, when the patient is most tired.

Myasthenia gravis, a drug administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly at a dose of 0.5 mg (1 ml) per day. Long course of treatment, changing routes of administration.

Myasthenic crisis (with difficulty breathing and swallowing): preparation is administered intravenously at a dose of 0.25-0.5 mg (0.5-1 ml) subcutaneously future, with small intervals.
