Metronidazole Indications

Treatment and prevention of infections caused by pathogens susceptible to metronidazole (mainly anaerobic bacteria).

Treatment effective in cases of:

– Infections of the central nervous system (including brain abscess, meningitis);

– Infections of the lungs and pleura (including necrotizing pneumonia, aspiration pneumonia, lung abscess);

– Endocarditis;

– Infections of the digestive tract and abdominal cavity, including peritonitis, liver abscess, infection after surgery for colon or rectum, purulent lesions of abdominal or pelvic cavity;

– Gynecological infections (including endometritis after cesarean section or hysterectomy, childbed fever, septic abortion);

– Infections of upper respiratory tract and oral cavity (including angina Simanovskoho Plauta-Vincent)

– Infections of bones and joints (including osteomyelitis);

– Gas gangrene;

– Septicemia with thrombophlebitis.

When mixed aerobic and anaerobic infections, the medicament should be used in addition to appropriate antibiotic treatment aerobic infections.

Prophylactic always shown before surgery with a high risk of anaerobic infections (intra-abdominal and gynecological before operations).

 
Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazolnyh derivatives or to any excipient of the drug.
