Levomycetin Chloramphenicol 500mg 10 tabs

Composition:
active substance: chloramphenicol; 1 tablet contains chloramphenicol (in terms of 100% dry matter) – 500 mg; excipients: corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, croscarmellose sodium, calcium stearate.

Pharmacotherapeutic group:
Antibacterial agents for systemic use. Amphenicol. Chloramphenicol. ATX code J01B A01.

Indications:
Infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug: typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, shigellosis, brucellosis, salmonellosis, yersiniosis, tularemia, purulent peritonitis, bacterial meningitis, rickettsioses, chlamydia, biliary tract infections. The drug is indicated in cases of ineffectiveness of other antimicrobial agents, given the possibility of severe side effects.

Method of administration and dosage:
The drug is taken orally 30 minutes before meals; in case of nausea, vomiting – 1 hour after eating. The dosage regimen is set individually, depending on the severity of the disease, the patient’s condition.

For adults, appoint 250-500 mg 3-4 times a day. The daily dose is 2 g. In especially severe forms of infections (for example, typhoid fever) in a hospital setting, it is possible to increase the dose to 4 g per day (the maximum daily dose for adults) under strict control of the blood state and liver and kidney function.

Children from 3 to 8 years old should be prescribed 125 mg in a single dose, children from 8 years old – 250 mg. The frequency of admission is 3-4 times a day. If it is necessary to use a dose of 125 mg, a chloramphenicol preparation with a lower content of the active substance should be taken.

The course of treatment is usually 7-10 days. If necessary and subject to satisfactory tolerance, in the absence of changes in the composition of peripheral blood, it is possible to extend the course of treatment up to 2 weeks.
