Espa-carb Carbimazole 10mg 50 tabs

Espa-carb Composition:
1 tablet contains carbimazole 10 mg;
other components: 10 mg tablets: mannitol (E 421), microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, anhydrous citric acid, sodium starch glycolate (type A), magnesium stearate, iron oxide yellow (E 172).

Pharmacotherapeutic group:
Antithyroid agents. Sulfur-containing imidazole derivatives. ATX code H03B B01.

Indications:
Thyroid dysfunction is associated with overproduction of its hormones (hyperthyroidism). Preparation for thyroidectomy in hyperthyroidism. Therapy before and after radioactive iodine treatment.

Dosage and administration:
ESPA-CARB is used only for hyperfunction of the thyroid gland, confirmed by laboratory tests.

adults
The dose at the beginning of treatment should be 20-60 mg, it should be titrated depending on the function of the thyroid gland until the patient is euthyroid, in order to reduce the risk of overtreatment and, as a result, hypothyroidism. Subsequent treatment is carried out in one of two ways. Maintenance therapy: the final dose is usually 5-15 mg / day, which can be taken as a single daily dose. Therapy is continued for at least 6-18 months. Continuous monitoring of thyroid function is recommended along with appropriate dose adjustment to maintain a euthyroid state. Block-replacement regimen: Initial doses of 20-60 mg per day are maintained, and L-thyroxine 50-150 mcg per day is additionally prescribed to prevent hypothyroidism. Therapy lasts at least 6-18 months.

Elderly patients
If there are no contraindications or reservations, then such patients do not need a special dosage.
