Composition
Active substance: levocarnitine;

1 ampoule (5 ml) of solution for injection contains 1 g of levocarnitine;

1 ml of solution for injection contains 200 mg of levocarnitine;

Excipients: dilute hydrochloric acid, water for injections.

Pharmacotherapeutic group
Amino acids and their derivatives. Levocarnitine. ATC code A16AA01.

Indications
Primary and secondary carnitine deficiency.

Method of administration and dosage
Secondary carnitine deficiency in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

A 2 g dose of the medicinal product should be administered intravenously and slowly at the end of each dialysis session.

A dosage of 2.5 g may be indicated for patients who have been on dialysis for more than one year.

Intravenous administration of the medicinal product should be performed slowly (over 2–3 minutes).

Special patient categories

Elderly patients

No dosage adjustment or other special precautions are required for these patients. Clinical studies have shown a similar safety profile in younger and elderly patients.

Patients with diabetes mellitus

The use of levocarnitine in patients with diabetes mellitus who are receiving insulin or oral hypoglycemic therapy may cause hypoglycemia (due to improved glucose uptake). In such patients, plasma glucose levels must be monitored continuously to adjust the hypoglycemic treatment regimen (see section “Special precautions for use”).

Children.

The medicinal product may be used in children.
