Brimonal (brimonidine)

Brimonal contains the active ingredient brimonidine, alpha-2 adrenergic agonist (antiglaucoma).

Brimonal Indications

– Open-angle glaucoma or elevated intraocular pressure (IOP).

– Monotherapy in patients contraindicated to use local beta-blockers.

– In the complex therapy with other drugs for lowering IOP when monotherapy does not give the desired result.

Contraindications

– Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any other drug.

– Concomitant use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors and antidepressants, which affect noradrenergic transmission (eg tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants mianseryn).

Dosage & Administration

The drug is prescribed for adults.

It is recommended to instill one drop drug Brimonal 0.2% in the affected eye twice a day with interval of 12 hours at regular intervals.

Correction dose for elderly patients is required.

As with any eye drops, to reduce possible systemic absorption of the drug is recommended for 1 min easy click on the lacrimal sac area, located in the inner corner of the eye. This should be done immediately after instillation of each drop drug. If appointed more than one type of eye drops should be instilled at intervals 5 15 minutes.
